United States Distinguished Service Cross (DSC) in case. Full Wrap broach cross with edge numbered 14787. Hard to find early maroon leather Distinguished Service Cross case which is in nice condition. Functioning push button lock with embossed in gold lettering D.S.C. on top of case. No additional research information that I could find on possible recipient. Overall, nice early DSC with the much sought after maroon leather DSC case.

Additional Notes: The Distinguished Service Cross (DSC) is the U.S. Army’s 2nd highest military decoration for soldiers who display extraordinary heroism in combat with an armed enemy force. During WW2, just over 5,000 awards were made. Army Air Forces Lieutenant Colonel John Meyer, Major General James Van Fleet, and Master Sergeant Llewellyn Chilson were 3-time recipients. Jeannette Guyot and Virginia Hall were the only 2 women to receive the award. A number of recipients of the Distinguished Service Cross in earlier conflicts were again honored in WW2. The Distinguished Service Cross was first awarded during World War I. In addition, a number of awards were bestowed for actions which took place before World War I.
