An original portrait of Alexander Kovacs, a Dominican Republic diplomat who served under President Rafael Trujillo. The oil painting is by the renowned Hungarian artist Ladislao Szody, signed and dated 1954. It was painted on a stretched canvas framed with a wood frame which brings the total size to 32 inches x 38 inches. The painting has oil chipping and frame surface damage. A painting of this caliber rarely becomes available outside a gallery or museum.

Additional Notes: Ladislao Szody (1902-1973) was an internationally known artist and portrait painter. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, Italy, and later in Spain. He taught in Florence; he also taught at the Sorbonne in Paris, New York, and Puerto Rico. Paintings by Mr. Szody took first prizes at the Budapest National in 1941 and the International Exhibition of 1955 in Barcelona. As a noted portrait painter, he was commissioned to paint a portrait of Gustav Adel, King of Sweden in 1931. He also did portraits of Spanish aristocracy during the years 1934 through 1936, and painted portraits of King Farouk in 1936 and Pope Pius XII in 1940. Paintings by the artist now are part of permanent collections in the Budapest City Museum, the Museum of Modern Art in Rome, the Trieste Art Museum, the Madrid Museum of Modern Art, and the Museu d´Art Contemporani de Barcelona, as well as in private collections.
