1813 Iron Cross 2nd Class . IMM531

$5,500.00

1813 Iron Cross 2nd Class. Multi-piece construction with iron core (magnet sticks to core). 1813 “stepped” iron core. I believe this is an early production 1813-1815 iron cross, however, the 1813 Iron Cross continued to be awarded into the 1830’s. Also, comes with section of old ribbon that displays nicely with cross, this ribbon came with the cross when I originally picked it up from the author of the Iron Cross reference guide, The Iron Time. Worn condition. Very rare and hard to find 1813 Iron Cross that is typically missing from most collections.

Additional Notes: The Iron Cross was established by King Frederick William III of Prussia in March of 1813, during the Napoleonic Wars. The Iron Cross was awarded for distinguished service in the Prussian War of Liberation. The design of the Iron Cross is a black four-pointed cross with silver trim, similar to a cross pattée, and it has been used in various forms throughout German military history. It was revived for the Franco-Prussian War (1870), WW1 (1914), and WW2 (1939).
