Japanese Katana. Most likely Edo period. This one appears to be a ww2 GI bring back, still has GI ww2 era dog tag tied to sword. Local picker find. Nice tsuka (hilt/handle) with good tsuka-ito (handle wrapping) with nice set of menuki (the decorative ornaments under the handle wrapping) with gold highlights. I could not easily take the handle off this one, unable to easily push out what appears to be a wooden peg, so, leaving as is. There is another hole which is typically where I expect the wood peg to be, so not sure if the other round area is actually a peg. There is some wiggle to the handle also, probably could use an extra seppa or spacer, however, could not look further since I do not want to force the handle off, prefer to leave as-is since it has a nice look and feel and do not want to force the handle off incorrectly. Black lacquered wooden saya (scabbard) with quite a bit of chipping and scratching to saya. Basic design tsuba and seppa (spacers). One-piece habaki (blade collar) with standard rain type design. The blade has some wear, however, overall nice basic condition. Blade also has single blade fuller or blood grove and temper line. The length of the blade measured from tsuba is approximately 27 inches and the overall length is approximately 36 1/2 inches.
