WW2 German SS 8 Year Long Service Medal. Pin attached to ribbon. Tear drop style ring attachment with crimped eyelet. Ribbon has pin attachment. This is sometimes referred to as a 3rd Class SS Service award (1st = 25 yrs, 2nd = 12 yrs, 3rd = 8 yrs, and 4th = 4 yrs) that is made of die struck bronze alloy. On the back of the medal has the motto of “Fur Treue Dienste in der SS” or “For Loyal Service in the SS”. Overall good condition
Additional Notes: The WW2 German SS Long Service Award was given to members of the SS for their years of service. The eight-year service medal was finished in bronze and awarded to all officers, NCOs, and enlisted men. The medal was instituted in January of 1938. The award featured two centrally placed SS runes surrounded by an oak leaf wreath. The four and eight-year service awards were in the form of circular medals while the 12 and 25-year service awards were in the form of a swaz. The SS service awards were designed in Munich by Professor Karl Diebitsch. The four-year service award had a black finish and was awarded only to NCOs and enlisted men. The four-year service medal was manufactured by the firm Petz & Lorenz. The eight-year service award was finished in bronze and was awarded to all Officers, NCOs and enlisted men. The eight-year service medal was manufactured by the firm Deschler.
