Imperial German Pickelhaube (Spiked Helmet ) Field cover. This cover was used to protect the helmet when stored, it was also used to wear over the helmet when the Officer was on the field of combat. It prevented the helmets’ bright spike and insignia from reflecting the sun and giving away the Officers position and the position of his unit.
