Additional Notes: The French Lebel Bayonet, officially known as the Épée-Baïonnette Modèle 1886, was a crucial part of the Lebel rifle. It was affectionately called “Rosalie” by French troops. The bayonet featured a long, narrow stiletto-type cruciform blade, designed for quick, deep thrusts. Originally made with a nickel-silver alloy grip, the bayonet switched to brass grips during WWI due to nickel shortages. It remained in service until the Fall of France in 1940 and saw extensive use in French colonies.
