1798 Spanish Empire Silver 8 Reales Portrait & Pillars. Silver 8 Reales. Carolus IIII (Charles IV). Very worn condition.

 

Additional Notes: The Spanish 8 Reales coin was the workhorse, not of just Spain and its colonies, but of the entire world. These coins are widely known as “Pillar Dollars” from the pillars that appear on the reverse of these coins. Contains 0.7859 oz actual silver weight. The front (obverse) features laurel bust of the king of Spain facing right. The back (reverse) features crowned arms shield surrounded by legend. The dates of this type of Spanish 8 Reales could be between 1772 and 1825, with one of three Spanish kings being displayed on the obverse, between Charles III, Charles IV and Ferdinand VII.
