Civil War CDV of Major James H. Close. He enlisted on May 28, 1861, as a Captain and was commissioned into the “G” company of the 2nd New Jersey Infantry. On December 10, 1862, he was promoted to Major and received a Regimental company Transfer in 1862 from company “G” to that of a Field & Staff Officer with the 39 New Jersey Infantry. He mustered out on June 17, 1865, at Alexandria VA.
