Additional Notes: The Reichsluftschutzbund (RLB), or National Air Raid Protection League, was a civil defense organization in WW2 Germany. It was established in April of 1933, by Hermann Göring, the Reich Minister of Aviation. The RLB was responsible for air raid precautions in residential areas and among smaller businesses. Initially a voluntary association, membership in the RLB became obligatory for nearly all Germans by 1935. By 1939, it had about 15 million members and grew to 22 million members by 1943. The organization was structured into various levels, including local, regional, and national groups. The RLB trained ordinary German men and women in civil defense procedures, such as firefighting, protection against chemical weapons, and communication procedures. It played a crucial role in preparing the population for air raids during WW2.
