American WW1 Wounded in Action document (Meritorious Service Citation Certificate). Hard to make writing, however, appears to be most likely made out to: William F. Arnold, Pvt Brig D 322nd Fld Arty. Size approximately 19 1/2 inches x 16 inches. Worn condition.
Additional Notes: The American WW1 Wounded in Action or Died in Service certificate is also known as a Meritorious Service Citation Certificate. They were given to both Died in Service and Wounded in Action of the AEF after the war before the introduction of the Purple Heart in February of 1932 (recipients of this citation could apply for a Purple Heart). The documents read at the top, “Columbia Gives To Her Son The Accolade Of The New Chivalry Of Humanity.” Some are detailed enough to show the soldier’s unit while others just list their branch of service.
