$25.00
United States Navy Dixie Cup White Service Hat. Named and numbered in black stencil with sailor name and service number. Most likely 1940s-1950s era. Very worn condition with staining.
Additional Notes: For more than 130 years, the white service hat, also known as an “Dixie cup,” has served as the primary headgear for sailors in the United States Navy and was nicknamed due to its resemblance to the drinking cup. Introduced in more or less its current form in 1886, the white hat was designed to replace straw hats worn during warm-weather months and was crafted out of canvas. However, a dark blue flat hat was still worn during winter.
