United States M1 Combat Helmet Reversible Camouflage Cover Vietnam. Mitchell camouflage pattern. Very faded contract mark, however, appears to be: DSA 100 C 69 0944 (which would date this one to 1969). Also, appears to be named and numbered in red ink as well. Very worn condition.
Additional Notes: The U.S. Mitchell camouflage pattern was developed during the Korean War and was used extensively during the Vietnam War. The M1 helmet cover in this pattern is reversible, featuring a green leaf “summer” design on one side and a brown cloud “winter” pattern on the other. This allowed soldiers to adapt their camouflage to different environments. The Mitchell pattern helmet cover was first introduced in 1959 and was used by both Marines and Army troops. It had buttonholes for attaching foliage.
