United States Civil Defense helmet. Most likely 1940s (ww2) era. Exterior of helmet very heavily worn condition with no insignia on exterior of helmet and some ink writing on exterior. Interior of helmet marked U.S. Govt Property O.C.D. on interior rim. Interior has very worn condition liner straps. No chinstrap. Very heavily worn condition.

 

Additional Notes: During WW2, the United States Civil Defense helmets were issued to air raid wardens and other civil defense personnel. These helmets were typically white and could feature a selection of Civil Defense emblems on the front. They were used in drills and emergency situations to help coordinate civilian protection efforts. The Office of Civilian Defense (O.C.D.) oversaw civil defense initiatives, organizing volunteers to assist in firefighting, first aid, and other emergency response tasks. These helmets were often stamped with “U.S. GOV’T PROPERTY O.C.D.”, marking them as official government-issued gear.
