Japanese Wakizashi – Dragon Etched . SJ272

$1,500.00

Japanese Wakizashi. Most likely Edo period. Lacquered saya (wooden scabbard) does not fit sword properly (too long) however, left with sword, could use a more appropriate fit scabbard. I believe to be Edo period blade and fittings. Blade has nice dragon design etching on one side and two-piece habaki (blade collar) and nice wavy hamon (tempering line), however, there is a good size chip on edge of blade about 2/3 the way down the blade. Tsuka (handle) with purple wrap still in decent shape, ray skin cover wood core with decent pair of menuki. Basic iron fuchi and kashira (end cap) fittings with bamboo type design and iron tsuba (hand guard) with gilt highlights on one side. Blade length 15 inches (16 inches counting the 1 inch habaki). Single hole tang with signature.

Additional Notes: Wakizashi blades are typically between 12 inches to 24 inches or (30-60cm) or (between 1 and 2 shaku).
