Japanese Tanto Mumei . SJ273

$500.00

Japanese Tanto Mumei (unsigned tang) in Koshirae (mountings). Single hole nakago (tang) is unsigned. Blade is in nice overall condition and has a two-piece habaki (blade collar). Nice straight hamon (temper line) on blade. The tsuka (handle) has a nice fuchi (collar) with basic design. The Menuki (ornament under cloth binding) appears to be replaced with what looks like a half a coin, decent condition Ito (cloth binding), and a basic Kashira (end cap). Iron tsuba (hand guard) with basic design with some gilt highlights. Saya (wooden scabbard) is black lacquerer in decent overall condition with some age cracking, however, is too long for blade, blade fits in saya well, however, could use a shorter saya. Blade approximately 8 1/2 inches counting the habaki (about 8 inches from end of habaki), and about 13 1/2 inches in overall length, about 17 inches overall in saya. Most likely Edo period blade that has a saya that is a bit too long, however, blade fits into saya fine, could use a shorter length saya. Overall decent condition.
