Japanese Sword Handle . SJ329

$230.00

Japanese Sword Tsuka (hilt/handle) most likely for a wakizashi. Heavily worn condition, does not have a kashira (end cap). The menuki (the metal ornaments under handle wrap) in good condition with gilt highlights (hard to make out the design under the wrap, appears to be some type of flower design). Also, has fuchi (sword handle collar) with gilt highlights. The handle cloth wrap (Ito) is in very worn condition. The handle is approximately 5 3/4 inches in length. I believe this is Edo period (1603-1867). The handle does not have a kashira, could be used as a project piece or parts piece. Basically, selling this for the price of the menuki and fuchi.

Additional Notes: The menuki are the decorative metal ornaments that are woven under the handle wrapping.

The Kashira is the cap or pommel located at the end of the Tsuka, the sword’s handle. It serves to secure the Tsuka-ito (the handle wrap), ensuring it stays in place and keeps the handle components tightly bound.

The fuchi is a hilt collar between the tsuka and the tsuba.
