Japanese Sword Handle (Missing Fuchi) . SJ330

$200.00

Japanese Sword Tsuka (hilt/handle) most likely for a wakizashi. Damaged condition. Heavily worn condition missing fuchi (sword handle collar). The menuki (the metal ornaments under handle wrap) in good condition with gilt highlights (hard to make out the design under the wrap). Also, has Kashira (end cap) which appears to be iron with what looks to be a basic bird type design. The handle cloth wrap (Ito) is in worn condition. The handle is approximately 6 inches in length. I believe this is Edo period (1603-1867). The handle is missing the fuchi, could be used as a project piece or parts piece. Basically, selling this for the price of the menuki and kashira.

Additional Notes: The menuki are the decorative metal ornaments that are woven under the handle wrapping.

The Kashira is the cap or pommel located at the end of the Tsuka, the sword’s handle. It serves to secure the Tsuka-ito (the handle wrap), ensuring it stays in place and keeps the handle components tightly bound.

The fuchi is a hilt collar between the tsuka and the tsuba.
