United States WW2 3rd AAF (Army Air Force) Army Service Tunic. U.S. 3rd AAF shoulder sleeve insignia (patch) on one sleeve. Sergeant (Sgt.) sleeve rank insignia on each sleeve. Ruptured Duck honorable discharge insignia above one front pocket. Uniform has a U.S. enlisted brass collar disc on one side of collar area and one enlisted AAF collar brass on other side. Inside back upper area in ink stamped, named, and has military laundry marks, the size ink stamp appears to be 35L. Contract tag in pocket is size marked 35L and is contract dated 1940/1941 QM Depot. Several scattered moth nips. Worn and used condition.
Additional Notes: The United States (U.S.) Army basic service uniforms consisted of a winter service uniform of olive drab (OD) wool worn in temperate weather, and a summer service uniform of khaki (a shade of tan) cotton fabric worn in tropical weather. In addition to the basic service uniforms, there were also a variety of fatigue and combat uniforms utilized as well. During ww2 era, summer and winter service uniforms were worn during their respective seasons while on duty within the United States. During wartime deployment, the European Theater of Operations was considered a year-round temperate zone and the Pacific Theater of Operations a year-round tropical uniform zone. In the Mediterranean Theater of Operations, U.S. soldiers wore both seasonal uniforms.
