US 4th AAF Patch – Ribbed Weave – WW2 . USP1086

United States WW2 4th Army Air Force (AAF) shoulder sleeve insignia (patch). The patch is fully embroidered with a heavy snowy back and ribbed weave variation. Worn condition. Most likely 1940s (WW2) era. The patch does not react to UV light (does not glow under blacklight).

Additional Notes: The U.S. 4th AAF is one of the four original pre–WW2 numbered army air forces, the 4th AAF was activated in December of 1940, at March Field, California with a mission of air defense of the Southwestern United States and Lower Midwest regions. During the war, its primary mission became the organization and training of combat units prior to their deployment to the overseas combat air forces.
