US 10th AAF Patch – WW2 . USP167

United States WW2 10th Army Air Force (AAF) shoulder sleeve insignia (patch). The patch is fully embroidered with a snowy back. A bit of glue and paper residue on back possible from being removed from a scrapbook. Worn condition. Most likely 1940s (WW2) era. The patch does not react to UV light (does not glow under blacklight).
Additional Notes: The U.S. 10th AAF was activated in February of 1942, built up around a nucleus of air force personnel newly arrived from Java and the Philippines, under the command of Maj. Gen. Brereton. It had its headquarters at New Delhi. Components of the air force moved to India over a 3-month period from March to May of 1942. It was responsible for creating, operating and safeguarding the India-China Ferry, more commonly known as the Hump airlift, between April and December of 1942, first with its Assam-Burma-China Command until July, then the India-China Ferry Command until December, when jurisdiction for the airlift passed to the Air Transport Command.
