Additional Notes: The Distinguished Service Cross (DSC) is the U.S. Army’s 2nd highest military decoration for soldiers who display extraordinary heroism in combat with an armed enemy force. During WW2, just over 5,000 awards were made. Army Air Forces Lieutenant Colonel John Meyer, Major General James Van Fleet, and Master Sergeant Llewellyn Chilson were 3-time recipients. Jeannette Guyot and Virginia Hall were the only 2 women to receive the award. A number of recipients of the Distinguished Service Cross in earlier conflicts were again honored in WW2.
