Additional Notes: The U.S. Navy and Marine Corps Medal is the highest non-combat decoration awarded for heroism by the United States Department of the Navy to members of the United States Navy and United States Marine Corps. Established by an act of Congress in August of 1942, it recognizes individuals who distinguish themselves by heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy. The medal is octagonal in shape, made of bronze, and features an eagle holding a fouled anchor over a globe, with the word “Heroism” engraved below the globe. It is a prestigious award that acknowledges acts of bravery and self-sacrifice in life-threatening situations.
